Beginner DJ?

I get a lot of questions on how to begin as a DJ. Such as, how did you learn? What equipment do you buy? How do you get gigs? Well in this blog I’m going to be going over just that. To start off, I learned how to DJ mainly from just doing it. I know that is very vague, but it’s true. The best way to get good at DJing is playing as much gigs as possible and learning different age demographics. The best DJ’s understands there audiences, if you play hard core edm at a 90th birthday party, I promise you, it’s not going to work. Maybe in the next few years though. The basics of Djing are pretty easy to learn. Beat matching is the key to Djing, which I learned through Youtube tutorials. Youtube was key to learn DJ tricks and learning about equipment. Which brings me to my next question. Buying equipment can be tricky because you usually have a smaller budget. So the best thing to do is look for videos that explain good quality equipment for your budget. Because once you start gigging you can start investing more into your equipment. It took me about 5 years to have to perfect equipment. Lastly, when I first started gigging, I would tell everyone I was a DJ, friends, family etc. The trick to get gigs is be confident and play every kind of party possible. Social media is also a huge part of not only being a DJ, but an artist as well. Building your brand as an artist/ DJ is so important in today’s industry, people that are going to hire you look at all of that. So with that said, be on every social media platform and find one that works the best! Instagram is the most popular especially with promoters. I hope this will answer some of you questions.
